Vera Vargas, Chairman
Vera Aline Vargas was born in March 1973 in Agualva-Cacém, Portugal. She is the oldest child of Portuguese art teacher Bernardo Vargas and the older sister of Minister Raquel Vargas-Smith and Sports coach Bernardo Jr Vargas.
At the age of six, Vargas and her family moved to Fort Worth, Texas. Eight years later they migrated to Australia. The stay in Australia lasted for only one year, then they moved back to Vargas birthplace. In 1994, Vargas graduated from Instituto Pilitécnico de Leira with an A.B. in International Business. Three years later she got her MA in International Business. After graduation Vera worked as an economist at The Meyers Project in Europe for six years. In early 2003 Vargas met her future husband, Alfredo Delgado, on a business trip to Germany. Later the same year, the couple moved to Berlin. For four years (2003-2007) Vargas worked for The Meyers Project as Vice President of the European area before being recruited to the Board of Directors. In 2007 she began working as Financial Director at the Board of Directors at The Meyers Project. Three years later she was promoted. Since then she has been the Chairman. When Vargas isn't working, she is sailing, golfing and playing baseball, squash and badminton. Language skills: Portuguese, English, German, Spanish, French and Russian. |
Brandon Yates, Vice Chairman
John Brandon Michael Yates was born in November 1966 in Quincy, Massachusetts, USA. He is the only child of biologist Ronda [Richards] Yates and train driver Benjamin Yates.
When Yates' parents got divorced, Brandon and his mother moved to Canada, from where his mother grew up. In 1984 Yates received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at University of British Columbia. He continued his education at Adler University and graduated in 1990 with a MA in Counselling Psychology. After graduating, Yates worked for The Meyers Project as Psychologist for five years. Brandon and his mother lived in Vancouver, Toronto for fourteen years and thereafter moved to Ottawa in 1992. When Ronda Yates died of cancer in July 1995 Yates left Canada and moved to Washington D.C. He started to work as Vice President of the Canadian area at The Meyers Project | North America. In 1997 he became Secretary at the Board of Directors at The Meyers Project. The same year Yates met his future wife, Latvian landscape gardener Brigita Ozolinsh. They married in one year later, just two months after their first son was born. The couple have four children: Philip (1998), George (2000), Arthur (2007) and Linda (2012). Eshe deleon, Secretary
Eshe DeLeon was born in February 1987 in Gurúè, Mozambique. She is the only child of Kenyan choreographer Faraji DeLeon and Sudanese photographer Zury Chissano DeLeon.
DeLeon's parents were political activists and were forced to leave Mozambique in 1993. They moved to Bristol, England. In 2007 DeLeon graduated from University of Bristol with a Bachelor in Theology and Sociology. She stayed at the university for three more years to study sociology with Professor Foster. In 2010 DeLeon was hired by The Meyers Project | Europe. She moved to Leeds for the work and stayed for four years. In 2014 DeLeon was promoted to Secretary at the Board of Directors. When DeLeon isn't working she plays the cello and writes novels. In 2015 she is going to release the final book in the Escape series. She has written eleven novels translated into more than fifty languages. In 2013 DeLeon won the Ingrid award, a prize for young novelists financed by The Meyers Project among others. Tove frisk, Financial director
Tove Jin Frisk was born as Jin Chan in April 1974 in Beijing, China. Frisk spent her first year in life at an orphanage in Bejing. She was then adopted by Swedish art dealer Dan Frisk and Norwegian television presenter Kristine Arnesen. The couple already two children, Line [now Abrahamsson] and Mikael Frisk.
Arnesen-Frisk lived in a detached house in Malmö in the south of Sweden. When Frisk was five years old the family moved to Gothenburg on the west coast. At the age of fifteen, Frisk and her siblings (seventeen- and eighteen-years-old) formed a band. The band called Allusion played Nordic folk music with pop influences, with Tove and Mikael on violin and Line on the drums. In 1998 Frisk finished the five-year-long Economist programme with a specialization in Chinese from University of Gothenburg. Two years earlier Frisk had given birth to a daughter, Alice Hammar. After graduating Frisk and her daughter moved to Oslo, Norway. She started to work as an economist at The Meyers Project | Europe. In 2004 she was promoted to Financial Director at the Board of Directors at The Meyers Project. Since then she has lived in several European big cities, Krakow and Barcelona among others. When Frisk isn't working she is playing music, hanging out with her daughter and running. For the moment she is practicing for Stockholm Marathon. Allusion may not be as active as in 1989, but the band released an album, Allusion/Illusion, in 2010. In 2008 Allusion expanded and became Allusion with family. Apart from the former members are now saxophonist Alice Hammar, pianist Ivar Abrahamsson, guitarist Sofi Abrahamsson and flutist Kristina Frisk a part of the Allusion family. Niall Arnold, Director of public relations
Niall Colin Arnold was born in April 1982 in Los Angeles, California, USA. He is the son of American business owner Lance Green and Welsh-American actress Glenda Arnold and brother to Sculptor Clive Arnold, Anesthetist Logan Arnold and Economist Doyle Arnold.
Arnold grew up in Los Angeles. He began competing at a young age, at first in swimming contests and later in basketball. At High School he was a part of the schools' successful basketball team. After High School Arnold studied at University of Southern California. In 2004 he got a Bachelor Degree in Public Relations. He graduated in 2007 with a MA in Public Relations. After graduation Arnold married his childhood friend the reporter Jasmine Beaton. The couple have three children: Riley (2007), Aubrey (2009) and Brody (2011). Arnold began working for The Meyers Project | North America as PR Manager. In 2010 Arnold and his family moved to Paris, France. He continued his career as PR Manager at The Meyers Project | Europe. He worked there until he was promoted to Director of Public Relations at the Board of Directors at The Meyers Project. Language skills: English and French. |
Xiang yu, International Director
Xiang Yu was born in December 1969 in Tianjin, China. He is the youngest son of Chinese-Korean politician Joon Yu and Chinese librarian Mei Lam Yu and the older brother of Physiotherapist Zhi Yu.
In March 1979 the Yu family moved to Tokyo, Japan. It was here Yu began his education at Tokyo International University. When he moved to Moskow, Russia in 1992 he still had a year left to graduation. He read the final year remotely. In 1993 he graduated from Tokyo International University with a MA in International Relations. After graduation Yu stayed in Russia. He began working for The Meyers Project | Europe. As International Frontman Yu traveled around the world. In 1997 he moved permanently to Paris, France. In 2006 Yu was promoted to International Director at the Board of Directors at The Meyers Project. He then moved to Tokyo, Japan where he shared an apartment with his ex-wife dancer Miranda Wang. They have two daughters: Lana Wang (2008) and Daisy Wang (2009). After Lana's birth the couple moved to Seoul, South Korea. When Yu and Wang divorced in 2015 Yu and daughter Daisy moved to Beijing, China. Language skills: Fluent in Mandarin, Japanese, Russian, English, Korean and French. |
Elsa wellington, Social Director
Elsa Augusta Wellington was born in February 1972 in Nottingham, England. She is the youngest daughter of Scottish film director Llew Jones and Welsh doctor Carol Wellington and the younger sister of Racing driver Bartholomew Wellington, Interior designer Charlotte Wellington-Mitford and Fashion designer Tristan Wellington.
In 1993 Wellington graduated from University of Nottingham with a BA in Sociology and Social Policy. During sabbatical year she met Belgian law student Lukas Wetterman. They became a couple, but in 1994 Wellington returned to the UK. In 1995 she graduated from University of Nottingham with a MA in Global Citizenship, Identities and Human Rights. She began working for the Meyers Project | Europe as Social Worker. In 1999 Wellington was promoted to Social Director at the Board of Directors at The Meyers Project. She moved in together with Wetterman in 1999 in his apartment in central Brussels. In 2003 they got married and one year later they moved to Auckland, New Zealand. Wellington gave in 2005 birth to twins Marcus and Dexter Wellington-Wetterman. Marcus and Dexter have participated in several commercials for The Meyers Project. "I know a lot of people who struggle to split up their lives into two, the Family Life and their career. Others have chosen just one of them. I couldn't manage either way. Instead I have let my boys be a part of my career. Both me and my husband have very time-consuming jobs. By letting our boys join meetings and follow us to work we please ourselves and earn the money." Wellington said to The Meyers Magazine in the June edition of 2014. In 2009 Wellington released a book treating the Wellington-Wetterman way of life - WW-style. Language skills: English, Dutch, German and French. |
Ini Madsen, Director of arts & sports
Ini Madsen [born D'Cruz] was born in July 1950 in Abuja, Nigeria. She is the only child of Ghanaian scientist Mwenye Afolayan and Brazilian dietitian Chima D'Cruz.
One year after Madsen's birth her family migrated to France. Like her parents, Madsen's political career started at an early age. In Nice, where she lived with her family, she graduated in Political Science at Université Nice Sophia Antipolis in 1975 after seven years of studies and research. She then gave birth to her son, Dakarai Hussein. After graduating Madsen moved back to Nigeria. She settled down in the capital, Lagos. She began working for The Meyers Project | Africa. Her work which might have appeared vague and insignificant actually established The Meyers Project's cultural work in the African area. In 1978 Madsen met Danish mathematician Kjeld Madsen. Madsen's experiences of arts and sports (she went to an arts school from the age of five and competed in football), her long education and nineteen years of hard work got result in 1993 when The Meyers Project established a Cultural Section. The same year, Madsen was transferred to Brussels, Belgium. She began working for the Meyers Project | Europe as Head of the Cultural Section. In 1994 she was promoted to Director of Arts & Sports at the Board of Directors at The Meyers Project. In 1997 Madsen moved to Copenhagen, Denmark where her partner Kjeld lived. They married in 2009.
